WHO WE ARE
Maine GIS Education Partners is an organization founded by and dedicated to Maine teachers interested in learning about and using Geography Information Systems (GIS) in the classroom. The primary goal of this partnership is to support K-12 teachers in the implementation of geospatial thinking and tools to answer geographic questions of local, national and global significance within Maine classrooms.
This professional development partnership offers all K-12 Maine educators help in acquiring GIS technology for their schools, suggestions for free or paid professional development programs, links to Maine organizations that support GIS in the classroom, a list of Maine introductory & graduate level GIS courses, mentoring, ideas for introductory and advanced GIS units, lessons and classroom activities, and practical strategies.
We aim to advance geographic knowledge of all Maine students in science, health, social studies, math, ELL, english, foreign language, vocational and special education classrooms across the state by first supporting K-12 teachers in harnessing the power of GIS.
This organization is open to all, regardless of technological proficiency.
